Two peas in a Pod - Thick as Theives - Those are both very good discriptions of my relationship with my dad. Our interests these day are obviously pretty different being that when I'm home he's working and when I'm working he's home. We try though to have those father daughter moments when can.. My dad loves to be out in the yard when he has free time, planting, mowing, weeding and cleaning out his garage are his favorites. Now I'm fine with mowing and I'm good with weeding, cleaning out the garage requires armor so as long as I'm suited up eh, I don't mind it.. Buut when it comes to planting I don't, like my Dad have a green thumb. I tried once, but I feel that enough of God creations die on a regular basis so why should I add to it by killing and innocent plant?.. So as you see I leave the yard work to him. Well this morning dad asked me to go with him to pick out plants for the front and back of our house. "Sure!" I said you gotta take advantage of those dad moments when they come along. So we plastic wrap the back of the car and head out. I think I should mention before I go on that all my life whenever I have gone someplace with my dad we allways allways no matter where we are see someone dad knows... I tell you we could be in Alaska and my dad would find someone he knows. I go out now with this expectation, the worst is when he meets up with a former officer from his old district or even one who wasn't in the old district..Lets say this, meeting up with his fellows officer friends always means make sure you bring a book. We went out to lunch and then headed for the flowers, things were going well we picked out what we needed, got in line waited for three bags of dirt and then headed for the car. We were so close! The next thing I hear "Hey Dan! Danny!" and not just one but two! Two! Of course both of them were retired police officers so that always takes even longer. I decided I would load up the car myself so I pushed the cart towards the back of the truck only to see that the parking attendant for the lot parked another car like ours behind us. Forget opening the trunk.. Now really who parks two Expeditions on top of each I mean there not exactly the smallest cars in the world..I glance back to see that my dad is still talking so I take another glance to see where the parking attendant dissapeared to. I finally see him directing a car my way into the spot on the other side of our car. Now I realize he was doing his job and I realize other people would like a place to park but dealing with lack of commen sense is something I seriously have to pray for patience for..Another thing I get from my dad lol. I decided before we got more boxed in than we already were that I would give a stern look their way and then point to the car behind us. Even the people driving the car looked and with wonder why someone would park there.. I don't think it even was a parking spot. Anyway the parking attendant had no idea what I was concerned about but of course I couldn't understand him either so I guess we were even.. He said something and then pointed as to say "hold on". I looked over at my dad who was not only still talking but laughing at me! Ugh rude ...I decided to point out that we were boxed in while he assured me that he could get the car out of the spot. Soooo I let myself in the car and waited to watch the show. Dad said his goodbye's and as he was coming back towards the car it dawned on me that our cart with the flowers was being pushed away by a stranger! I got out once again yelling and screaming about Expeditions, carts, ridiculous people and dissapearing flowers. By the time we convinced a 76 years old woman that our cart WAS NOT HERS..the other expedition had moved.. Thanks Dad, for making those Dad moments memorable..... |
